Sip and Paint
Due to popular demand, we are holding Sip & Paint evenings at the schoolhouse!
Drawing With Charcoal… And Then Some
Beginning with charcoal and black ink, we will draw still lifes from direct observation. As our projects progress, we will incorporate color using gouache paint. Investigating scale and form we will learn how to make an object believable in space. Along the way, we will discover the joys of using these versatile media, used by artists such as Rembrandt von Rijn, Henri Matisse, and Ellsworth Kelly – masters of line and color.
More Magical Creatures
Looking at fantastical creatures from around the globe for inspiration, we will create new and strange characters in both 2-D and 3-D using a variety of media. Our students’ own imaginations will be a crucial ingredient in everything we make in this class.

Mythological Creatures
From the riddle of the Sphinx to the legend of the Minotaur, we will make art inspired by ancient mythology. Looking at the work of artists Pablo Picasso and Joan Brown we will create our own fantastical creatures in both 2-D and 3-D. Our young artists will have fun as they learn about the incredible possibilities that art materials have to offer.

Perspective: Fields & Swimming Pools
Inspired by painters Vincent Van Gogh and David Hockney, we will focus on perspective - a key tool of picture making. We will use the traditional material of oil on canvas in the first project “Fields” inspired by Van Gogh’s late paintings. In the second project “Swimming Pools” we will include non-art materials and collage to create a vibrant painting after David Hockney.
