Classes for Children

Our goal is for our young artists to both learn and have a great time doing it! With a small group of children, sparks of creativity can be seized upon and used as jumping-off points for greater exploration and expression. A child's meandering creativity is respected and hopefully enriched by our guidance. Our small classes enable us to teach real skills effectively. We have the time and freedom to stop and discuss a piece of art or a period in art history at the moment when it becomes relevant in a child's work.

Painting from Life, Outdoors and In

Ages 6-11

Mondays, 1:00pm-3:00pm

September 15, 22, 29 • October 6

$120 for 4-class series

NEW: 5% discount for each additional child (per family)

For our first project, we will start with an outdoor landscape painting.  Bringing our easels outside, we will set up in front of trees, flowers and buildings and paint directly from what we see in front of us.

For our second project we will paint self-portraits inspired by the wonderful work of Frida Kahlo, who painted herself in many settings paying close attention to how she appeared to the viewer. In both projects the focus will be on painting what we see in front of us.

Amazing Nature

Ages 6-11

Saturdays, 10:00am-12:00pm

September 20, 27 • October 4, 11

$120 for 4-class series

NEW: 5% discount for each additional child (per family)

For our first project, we will use our imaginations to create silhouettes of branches and leaves painted on a vivid sky at sunset. Dramatic, color-filled images will be created using watercolor for the background and sumi ink and collage for the leaves and branches.

For our second project, we will again use our imaginations, this time to create a rich tapestry of the objects and creatures that we find on our beaches and dunes. We will use “flicking” to recreate the sand and collage and paint to create shells, seaweed and the sea and clouds.
